Comeback Medvedev Claims First Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children together, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He saved 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
